The greatest jazz chronicler of them all passed yesterday, a scholared mentor and roll model to all who write about jazz, Dan Morgenstern.

I have written dozens and dozens of advance obits for the Times over the past decade and only two have ever run. Now, suddenly: two (see Sergio Mendes) within 24 hours.

The clock ticks faster, I guess.
